In the context of this project, Talent undertakes the development of the following productions:
The Portal of the Project
The project’s portal hosts multiple scenarios – educational tours (360o tour, virtual reality production for a hemispherical Virtual Reality “Theatre” / virtual cinema, and a VR production for virtual masks), which provide the visitor with the opportunity to follow the phases of Byzantine architecture and art in an interactive way.
The Digital collection of 3D objects
The Digital Collection of 3D Objects of the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas includes selected objects that highlight the elaborate decoration and architecture of the temples of the monastic complex, as well as relics exhibited in the monastery’s museum or kept in the monastery’s collections. Frescoes, mosaics, marble mounts, decorative elements of the exterior decoration, ecclesiastical and historical relics were digitized in three dimensions and are available for educational and research purposes to the public and specialists.
360 Virtual Tour
This application is designed to guide visitors to the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas, via a 360o virtual experience. The visitors can choose the language in which they wish to hear and read the texts and then explore the monastery’s churches: the Catholicon, the church of the Virgin Mary, and the Crypt. They are provided with maps with specific points of interest. By clicking on the relevant icons on the maps they can access the relevant information on these sites. In addition, at certain points of interest, the content is enriched with 3D objects, relics of the monastery, and their description.
VR for headsets
The VR application is entitled “War and Peace”. Through it, the user, using VR masks, is transported to the past of the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas, to gain an intense and unique experiential experience. The approach followed is that of narrative immersion, where the user is immersed in the space of the plot of a story. The experience at hand, “War and Peace”, attempts to shed light on selected moments in the long history of the Monastery, historical moments, linked mainly to war events, but also moments of peaceful everyday life, such as those that the Monastery and the surrounding area undoubtedly experienced. The protagonists in this application are the people, their hopes and expectations, their misfortunes and sorrows, their lives, and their relationships with the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas and monastic life in general. The monuments, the architecture and the decorative details, or the precious objects form the setting that surrounds them and with which they can interact so that the micro-narratives are activated, and the narrative immersion of the user is enhanced.
